SkitZo MaN Archives 54 : Oh, Mom...

2007_06
We're well into 2007 now with our re-posts of old SkitZo strips. This one is notable because it features a some of my favorite supporting characters, Dr. Panacea and SkitZo MoM.  I actually really like the art in this one, and wouldn't change much of anything, other than the usual ComicSans font usage, and maybe some of the shading.

Whether or not the joke is actually funny, I'll leave up to the reader to decide.

SkitZo MaN Archives 53 : Cat Got Your Tongue?

2007_05
The English teacher in me questions the grammar of the year 2007 version of me who wrote this. It should be "louder" rather than "more loud," shouldn't it?

Other than that bit of nitpicking, I kind of like this one. I like what I did with lettering Larry's scream, and the cat is pretty fun. Is SkitZo MaN too tall or not-big-headed enough, though, or is it just me?

SkitZo MaN Archives 52 : Worst Game Show EVER

Another one of SkitZo's bad ideas... Not that most game shows are much better.

SkitZo MaN Archives 51 -- With Great Power...

2007_01
I haven't posted anything here on SMDC lately. I guess I just haven't had much time or energy to do anything creative outside of my current webcomic Doodze. Not even sketches. But I thought it was about time I got back to re-posting the old SkitZo MaN toons from back in the day. So here we are with the return of the Archives.

This strip was originally posted in early 2007. For those who don't get the reference, it's a parody of the first comic featuring Spider-Man, Amazing Fantasy #15, along with the slogan "With great power comes great reponsibility."

SkitZo MaN looks a little "off" in this to me, but it was fun doing a comic book cover parody. Maybe I should have done it in the same dimensions, complete with a Spider-Man-ish logo.

SkitZo MaN Archives 50 -- Monkeys! Monkeys!! Monkeys!!!

2006_14
Late 2006: This over-abundance of monkey-related sayings does not make for the funniest joke ever. However, I think the suit-wearing, poop-flinging monkeys make up for any bad-punning. Everyone like monkeys, right?  And just look how stylish SkitZo looks in that suit! Dreamy! Wouldn't you say so, ladies?

SkitZo MaN Archives 49 -- Re: Chickens Coming Home to Roost...

2006_13

Whatever That Means. This one, another from 2006, features a Napolean Dynamite reference.  I'd gotten pretty decent at coloring in Photoshop by this time.  However, one thing I notice here is my use of gradients. I used them too much back in the day, even in the first few pages of my newer webcomic, Doodze. Gradients are helpful, but in some cases they make whatever you're toning or shading look too smooth. Great if you're working on a picture of something shiny and new and metalic.  Not so great if it's supposed to look natural, like the ground in this strip; or if it's supposed to be old and worn out, like the barn.

SkitZo MaN Archives 48 - Three's Company

2006_12
This is another from late 2006-ish. Not my funniest gag. A little too similar to my "two heads are better than one" cartoon.  But I do like the clean design of this one, and the way I grayed out the background items so they're actually, you know, in the background. I also thought the thing I did with the eye colors was a nice touch.  You know, in all the years I did SkitZo MaN, no one ever pointed out that his eyes were different colors and switched back and forth all the time -- not even when I practically called attention to it in a case like this.  Then again, maybe people noticed but didn't care...?

SkitZo MaN Archives 47 : Larry the Mime

2006_10
2006_11
Another two from mid-to-late 2006, featuring the introduction of  Larry the Mime, a silent, creepy new neighbor of SkitZo and friends. The first strip illustrates the importance of clear communication. Of course, the real question is whether or not Geoff's and my humour communicates. Or, maybe... should WE be seen but not heard?

SkitZo MaN Archives 46

2006_07
Woot! We're on a role! Mostly because I pre-posted several weeks worth of toons back in early April! It's easy to keep a buffer on your webcomic when your webcomic is actually finished and you're simply re-running a best-of series.

I like this one because it has ninjas. It's also the first of several in 2006 that Geoff helped me write, and as with the earlier strips, they were much more funny with his input. I would never have paired this cliche with ninjas on my own. Funny stuff. On an artistic level, I like the colour scheme in this one.
